The RECOOP HST Consortium

Institute of Molecular Biology & Genetics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for 10 years was a member of the Regional Cooperation for Health, Science and Technology (RECOOP HST) Consortium.

Regional Cooperation for Health, Science and Technology (RECOOP HST) Consortium

Historically, Cedars-Sinai has developed a wide network of research collaborations throughout the world. During the last seven years Cedars – Sinai Medical Center implemented a systemic training program to help Central and Eastern European (CEE) partner organizations to expedite the capacity building in the field of research and innovation management.
In 2006 CSMC (USA) with eleven Central and Eastern European Universities and Academic Institutes from six countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine) formed the Regional Cooperation for Health, Science and Technology (RECOOP HST) Consortium.

Mission

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) and the RECOOP HST Consortium Partners formed a Strategic Alliance is grounded on the high quality scientific output of the individual Partners. The Strategic Alliance is helping the Partners to provide high quality research & innovation management, expand biomedical research and increase research capacity.

Vision

Within 3 years, the Consortium will be known as the organization of choice among research institutions in Central & Eastern Europe for launching new biomedical discoveries into the commercial market, promoting scientific collaboration between its member organizations and other well known institutions in Europe and the United States.

Goals

The Strategic Alliance’s main goal is to train and motivate scientists to capture and maximize the value of the laboratories and turn the “outputs” - the research results - into “outcomes” – commercially available products: new diagnostic tools, new medical devices and new drugs - for the benefit of the public.
The Consortium implemented a continuing education program and the Partners are organizing Research and Innovation Management Summer Schools, utilizing World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) World Wide Academy (WWA) Distance Learning (DL) courses for faculty members, managers, and for Ph.D. students as regular credit requirement to complete their qualification to defend their doctoral thesis. The Consortium is enhancing the success rate by licensing intellectual property (IP) to the industry via constructing a joint patent portfolio and creating a Patent Warehouse TM.
RECOOP HST is building an inventory of research tools (cell lines, test kits, antibodies, markers). The partners of the Consortium are using those research tools to increase the research output of each participating organization. The RECOOP HST Consortium is building Multidisciplinary Research Networks to enhance the competitiveness of the participating academic organizations.
